Ring Road Smoking Bench

The entrance to Parking Lot 1, at the outer edge of the Ring Road is just before the bus stop and smoking bench, just by the Glover Greenhouses.

Sign: Alumni Trail

This sign at the edge of Parking Lot 1 shows the beginning of the Alumni Trail. Go right to go to Cedar Hill Cross Roads. Go left to go along the upper bank of Mystic Vale Ravine.

Top of Stairs

Starting beside a large Douglas-fir tree, 39 steps lead down to the bottom of the Mystic Vale ravine.

Bottom of Stairs

After 3 switchbacks and 39 steps, we reach the bottom of the Mystic Vale ravine.

Bridge over Hobbs Creek

The bridge crosses Hobbs Creek as it exits from the big pond, in the middle of the ravine length. Hobbs Creek is to the right of the trail.

Culvert

A culvert under the trail allows drainage from up above at UVic.

Great horned owl

Great horned owls have been know to nest in Mystic Vale.

The gate at the end of the lower ravine trail exits at Hobb's End Road right beside the driveway of one of the neighbours.
